Did You Know That You Can Use Your Medical Insurance At The Dental Office?
Most patients do not go to the dentist and expect their medical insurance to be billed. It seems fairly intuitive: dental visits are billed under dental insurance, medical visits under medical insurance.
But, do we have news for you! There are many dental procedures that can actually be billed to your medical insurance! Here at CV Dental Care, we offer this service to our patients every day. This allows patients to receive more financial coverage on their dental treatment and thus pay less out of their own pocket!
Treatments which can be billed under your medical insurance include:
- TMJ/TMD treatment
- Sleep Apnea treatment
- Accidents which affect your teeth
- Systemic diseases which affect your teeth
Still not convinced? Here is an example of how medical and dental insurances can be billed at the same time:
Let’s say you are suffering from cancer, and it is ruining your teeth and gums. When you come to visit our office, we will take care of your needs and then bill the dental treatment needed to fix your teeth. Normally, we would bill your dental insurance, but because we have the medical diagnosis of cancer, we are able to submit the bill to your medical insurance.
Now, let’s take a look at what happens when we receive the claim back from the insurance company:
In this scenario, the total cost of the dental treatment is $5,000. You have a medical deductible of $500, and once the deductible is met, your insurance covers 80%. At that point, your portion is $1,500.00.
Now, let’s take a look at what would happen if we billed that same $5,000 to your dental insurance:
In this scenario, you have a $1,200 maximum on their dental insurance. Due to that maximum, your portion would be $3,800.00.
As you can see from this example, it is extremely beneficial to our patients when we are able to bill their medical insurance! At CV Dental Care, we are dedicated to providing the best services possible for our patients, and that includes using your insurance to its fullest potential. Call our office today to see for yourself just how well we can take care of you!
